Couple
Psychotherapy
Couple psychotherapy provides a space in which partners can begin to understand why their relationship has become so troubled or challenging. It helps the members of the couple to articulate what cannot easily be expressed without the facilitation of a trained therapist. As matters are brought into the open, the couple can make the adjustments needed to heal the root causes of their pain instead of just patching over the same recurring arguments.
Relationships are the foundation of our well-being, yet they can also be the site of our deepest distress. At The Balint Consultancy, our approach is built on a legacy of clinical excellence; many of our practitioners are trained at Tavistock Relationships, the world’s leading training organisation in psychoanalytic couple therapy.
A Specialist Thinking Space
We provide a confidential environment where partners can look beneath the surface of their conflicts. Rather than focusing on individual blame, we help you explore the unconscious patterns that may be keeping your relationship stuck.
Couples often visit us to address:
Communication Breakdowns: Moving past repetitive arguments and stagnant dynamics.
Life Transitions: Navigating the impact of parenthood, retirement, or career shifts.
Intimacy and Trust: Addressing the complex emotional aftermath of infidelity or a loss of connection.
Co-Parenting Support: Ensuring the parental bond remains healthy and collaborative during times of strain.
Couple therapy can be open-ended or short-term, and can be of help to couples of any age or sexual orientation. It can be tailored to address specific areas of difficulty or particular challenges in otherwise good, well-functioning relationships, or it can provide an in-depth assessment and treatment plan for those in greater distress.
Our Process
Every relationship has its own history and its own potential for growth. We begin with an initial consultation (or series of consultations) to understand your specific history and concerns. From there, we offer an informed recommendation on the most effective therapeutic path—whether that involves focused, short-term work or deeper, open-ended psychotherapy.
